Hi the problem that I have is not emotional eating, I have no problem with taking it off. The problem is keeping it off. I don't take seconds at dinner time. Only if it is Veggies, or Salad. (which we don't use creamy salad dressing.) See many years ago, I was 210 pounds, (Not anymore) but I used to eat example if there was a variety of cold cuts on the table I used to take one slice of each. I used to eat cake practially everyday, soda everyday, ice cream (yes I do still eat ice cream but not alot in one serving), sugar in my coffee, & tea (not anymore not even artificial sweeteners) and so on.I don't eat like that anymore. But I took it off by myself. I went from a size 18 to a size 10.

Ok here it goes I know that sounds like a Wow she did it. But now I am a size 12 163lbs. I gather I'm a Yo-Yo. I dance in my room, with the music that makes you move. Bending my legs. But the thing is How come I can't keep it off. I have two more mths until I see my Dr. again and he wants me to be 6lbs lighter. I don't need a personal counseler. I just need advice. That's it.

Ok this too. See back in the 80's I tried the first liquid diet, got sick, on it. So that's why I don't recommend liquid diets, diet pills, just do it ourselves.

Hi Nygal,

It could be you have some extra bites you aren't noticing (they add up), or you've changed some habits just a bit, and that can be enough to add a few pounds. I wouldn't think of it as a yo-yo situation though. You started at 210, and now you're 163. That's okay. You're recognizing something has to change, so that's where you begin.

Keep an eating diary for at least a week. The idea is to try to catch yourself being yourself. You may find you've added back something a few times a week, and that could be cut back to once a week.

Emotional eating means many things. If you are worried or anxious about regaining (or upset or frightened or mad, etc.) that concern or mental energy is likely negative. And negative thoughts are not helpful. So, easiest thing is use EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) for the thing that is most bothering you right now.

EFT is easy to learn and easy to use. You can get the free EFT for Weight Loss materials that briefly explain how to get started. The previous link leads to a three page introduction, with the materials you can print or download and save on the third page. Then get on the list to receive The Daily Bites, my semi-weekly lessons in using EFT for weight loss. Using EFT as the tool to get past this bump in your road can really make all the difference. Let me know what happens.

Ok, I will do that.

Kathryn, See the thing is now I am 163 but after I lost 210 I went (slowly) to 140 (approx 145) and a size 10, Now I am back to a size 12. Also I am 5' 1/2" tall.
I understand what you mean now about Emotional eating. See I have a friend that she is on Overeaters Annoyomous. That is why I thought that is Emotional Eating she is that. I'm not. Do you understand what I mean.
I'm glad that I found your forum. I don't mind chatting about this. Right now I am drinking Iced Coffee, No sweetner, or milk (I don't do that even in my tea) I do hope I'm not confusing you in anyway. Also when I am out with my friends, I have seltzer (or club soda) with lemon & lime in it. It's better than having diet soda. Or I'll even just have water with lemon in it.

Thank You for having this forum.

Yes, I do understand what you mean. Most people think of emotional eating as eating when you're upset, for instance. I think of it as simply eating in a manner that is not consistent with your goals or stated outcomes (an outcome is what you want to have happen, not necessary an "end point" which generally is how I think of a goal).

Emotional eating is just a phrase that's used to distinguish what I do (try to help people learn to change habits and behaviors) from others that promote specific diet plans for instance. I just don't believe anyone is going to lose weight long-term by following a specific list of what they can and cannot eat. The non-dieting approach can backfire though, especially if people think of it as license to indulge, yet responsible indulgence is fine.

So, try tracking what you eat. It's best if you don't make an effort to eat better, just for the sake of keeping a nicer diary, but most people end up doing just that. Keep your eye out for any nibbles, licks, bites of this, tastes of that, that perhaps add up to quite a bit. I've seen people eat nearly an entire dinner's worth while cooking.
